The Time Will Never Be Right
"You don't have to be good to start... but you have to start to be good!" - Joe Sabah
Many of us will have plans, no matter how big or small, to start something new in our lives in the near future.
These things will be different for you and for me but they almost always exist.
"I'll start a business over the summer when I've got more time"
"I'm going to start working towards my exams tomorrow"
"I'll start going to the gym at the end of this month"
This can take a million different forms and if you are reading this...
The chances are that you have a 'going to do' lingering in there somewhere.
I would say that this was probably one of my biggest bottlenecks at one time in my life - absolutely everything was delayed until 'x' or until 'y'.
My justification for this was that I wanted to make sure that 'everything was in place first' or that the 'situation was right'.
While there is something to be said for doing a little bit of groundwork and making sure you have the capacity to take new things on...
The majority of the time, we use it as an excuse to ourselves in an attempt to justify our actions.
It hides the real reasons we don't want to do the thing to some extent.
Deep down, we all know when we are making excuses for ourselves.
So, how can you combat this procrastination?
Here are three rules I learned from Alex Hormozi:
If it takes less than 5 minutes to get done, do it right now.
If it takes more than 5 minutes, set a timer for 5 minutes and get it started. This creates an open loop in the brain and bypasses the massive activation energy it takes to get started.
Consciously make an attempt to get started on things quicker. If it usually takes you a month to start something, do it by the end of this week. If it usually takes you a week to get started, do it by the end of today. By moving from a month all the way down to a day, you get 30x quicker at doing things.
I hope this helps you beat your procrastination!
Progress With Us Podcast
WE ARE FILMING THIS AFTERNOON!
New studio, new cameras, new microphones, new everything.
It has been 81 days since we last filmed an episode and in that time, a lot has changed.
I feel that my ability to articulate my thoughts has gotten significantly better from doing 81 videos since then.
I'm itching to get back to it.
Lessons From This Week
Ebs & Flows
There will be some weeks where you are working flat out and making lots of progress and others where you are consolidating on the week before.
As long as the needle moves forward, you are moving in the right direction.
You Might Not Be Sleeping As Much As You Think
I got myself a WHOOP this week to track sleep, recovery and habits.
It turns out my 8 and a half hours of sleep is actually only 7 and a bit most nights, which is not good.
Sleep is basically the driver of everything - cognitive and physical.
If you want to improve yours with me, you can get a 1-month free trial of WHOOP here!
Education Is Changing
Formal education as a market is decreasing by $50 billion each year and E-Learning is growing by $20 billion each year.
Very interesting.
Thanks for reading guys,
