If you celebrate, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with friends, family & loved ones!
With 2023 coming to a close soon, a lot of us will be reflecting on the year that has gone by.
If you have high standards & have big goals, it can be very easy to fall into the trap of not feeling like you have done enough this year.
But when you properly look back on the past year, you will find that you have actually come a long way from where you started.
What Not To Do
If you are looking back on what this year has been like, you are already going in the right direction because the worst thing you can do is compare somebody else’s year to yours.
In the next week, you are going to see lots of people posting about how great their year has been, and comparing your results to those of others provided very little utility to you.
The best thing you can do is just focus on what you have done.
Get Some A4 & A Pen
Trust us, when you do this by hand, your pen will start to flow far better than when you are typing.
I do this exercise at the end of every month and it is one of the best things you can do to put everything in perspective.
I have my win book for reference but you can always use your camera roll if you don’t have a great memory!
Simply bullet point all of the things that you have done this year that you are proud of and that you are grateful for.
This could be anything, from starting your university degree to traveling to getting a new qualification at work or to making or maintaining new relationships.
Roll off anything this year that has happened that is positive.
What You’ll Start To Notice
When your pen gets flowing, you will begin to realise that you have had a pretty damn good year.
Even if you are just 1% better than you were at the end of 2022, you have still moved forward in the right direction.
We don’t often give ourselves the credit we deserve and by doing so, it puts us in a more positive state of mind.
Why This Is Important
Time passes by quickly.
Weeks fly past us and before you know it, it’s the end of the year again.
It’s not often that we have a natural opportunity to reflect on our lives and what has happened but when they come up it is important to do so.
You can identify the things that make you proud and it gives you something to improve and double down on.
Finally…
This exercise is something that I do that I find massively benefits me, but I acknowledge it’s not for everyone.
Even if you set aside 5 minutes to just think about 2023, focus as much as you can on what has gone well.
Thank you for reading! You are going to start seeing a lot more from us next year and we are excited to see you there.
