It was great to speak to Josephine, somebody who has had some great life experiences and had a lot of wisdom to share.
A topic we discussed towards the end of the podcast was female role models and is something I have been thinking about for a while now.
Guys Are (Seemingly) Leading The Line
The discussion between genders stems far beyond just influencers and creators online.
However, with the rise of self-improvement, fitness and online business, it appears that those with the loudest voices are almost all male.
I think back to Jordan Peterson’s meteoric rise to fame around 2016 when his university lectures became public on YouTube.
He struck something inside thousands and now millions of people with the messages he was spreading about responsibility, goal setting and self-improvement.
Most of those people were male and Jordan garnered a huge following, including myself.
Fast forward to 2022, Andrew Tate emerged out of seemingly nowhere to dominate social media, mainstream media and household discussions across the entire world.
He spoke to a slightly different demographic than Peterson.
A larger and more isolated demographic.
It seemed that the pendulum had swung too far with all of the discussion about what men should be like, and characters like this appear as an equal and opposite force.
Can You Think Of Anyone?
There have been so many massive male creators that have emerged in the past few years to speak out on the problems that the majority of young men are having.
I discussed this topic with close female friends, with my wonderful mother and with Josephine during Episode 7.
None of us could think off the top of my head of a female creator whose work and message have had a similar impact to the likes of Peterson & Tate.
Sure, there are female creators and positive influences in companies and institutions but they can be hard to find and positive messages can be difficult to leverage unless they are broadcasted on the internet.
What Are The Reasons Behind This?
It is a multi-variable equation that I am not going to solve today, but I will share some of the opinions of others I have spoken to as well as my own.
Women Lead In Smaller Circles
Highly achieving women in institutions such as law firms or businesses are an example to those around them. They lead and set the standard in person as opposed to online. This may be through societies, communities or in the workplace. They are out there but they are just behind closed doors.
General Life
Women have to face the challenges of pregnancy, motherhood and other challenges that as a man, I am completely oblivious to. They might not have the time to come home, fire up the camera and share their wisdom on the internet to a standard that the algorithm favours and will distribute.
