Imposter syndrome is the condition of feeling anxious and not experiencing success internally, despite being ‘high-performing’ in external, objective ways.
If you experience imposter syndrome, at times you might feel like ‘a fraud’ or ‘unworthy’ for being in the position you find yourself in.
Despite the temporary discomfort you feel now, imposter syndrome can be strong indicator that you are going in the right direction.
What causes imposter syndrome?
It is usually caused by doing something that you have never done before or moving into a realm that is outside your comfort zone.
You might not have a clue what you are doing or you might be inexperienced.
In this case, why would you not have imposter syndrome?
You are literally doing something that you have never done before.
It is normal to feel like this
You don’t have the undeniable stack of evidence that you are who you say you are… YET.
The first time for anything will always be the hardest and every single time after that, it becomes easier and easier until it becomes effortless.
All you have to do it put in the reps and stick at it until you have built up your stack of evidence.
Don’t let it hold you back
If you are putting off starting that thing you want to do because you are scared of feeling like an imposter, do it anyway.
Everyone who is where you want to be will have experienced this at some point when starting out.
They didn’t let it hold them back and neither should you.
