IMPORTANT NOTE 1: Before I continue in this newsletter, I am going to try and synthesise the information that I learned from two absolutely exceptional videos I watched of Charlie Morgan this week.
If you want to get it straight from the source, please do so. I'll leave both video links attached at the bottom of this email. I suggest you watch them no matter who you are.
IMPORTANT NOTE 2: I want to go back to writing more personalised newsletters that come from me.
I have been writing them based on what I think other people want to read, which goes against my reason for starting it (which was to help me think and articulate my ideas).
I hope you enjoy it all the same. Love you :)
-------------------------------------------------
If you are familiar with me personally or through the podcast, you'll know that I have undergone somewhat of a mindset transformation this past year.
I had a realisation that my habits, behaviours and beliefs were leading me to be someone I didn't really want to be.
You can go and watch the podcasts if you want my full origin story but this does link back to what I am going to say.
I started working with my mentor, Lee, who is an absolute machine and changed the entire trajectory of my life.
A lot of the stuff I learnt early on with Lee was real breakthrough stuff for me and this is coming up a year ago now.
Since then, I feel like I have achieved a lot of the initial goals I set out to achieve with him and have taken my eye off the whole 'mindset' side of things recently.
So, I went back and took a look through the things I learnt at the start with him and I want to share the most important idea I have ever come across with you.
You Don't Achieve Goals, You Achieve A Character
The first and most important piece of advice I have ever received and have admittedly taken my eye off the ball with recently.
In a lot of ways, life is a game.
For example: In a game, you play as a character and to unlock certain levels in the game, you must upgrade your character.
Why do you need to upgrade your character to reach a certain level?
Because the character you currently have wouldn't be able to complete that level without the upgrades.
You would fight the final boss baddy and die every time because you haven't upgraded your character enough.
But how does this apply to yours and my life, in a way that isn't extremely obvious enough to make you close this and go and scroll on TikTok?
Let's strip it right back to the bare basics.
We set goals so we have something to aim towards.
Right?
But it's not necessarily the goals that matter.
Because everyone at the start of a 100m race has the same goal.
To win the race.
So, what differentiates the people who achieve their goals from the people who do not?
The inputs and systems they put in place to achieve it.
But it's STILL deeper than that.
There is still another layer to it.
Because you could give an average person with a great work ethic an Olympic sprinting plan and roadmap.
Would they dust up Usain Bolt on the track?
Probably not.
So, the goal is useful but it's not everything.
The systems are a big part of it but they are still not everything.
They are objective measures.
The REAL POINT of having a goal is to become 'he who can'.
Or 'she who can'...
Or 'they who can'...
Idk who reads this.
Anyway, what I mean by this is...
Who do you have to become to achieve that goal?
What kind of person would be able to achieve it?
And this is where it becomes so much more than just "systems' or 'inputs' or 'goals'.
You have to transcend your entire self into this character.
You have to add every behaviour, belief, experience, and genetic, like a multi-varied equation in order to equal the person who is capable of achieving those goals.
The way you sleep, the way you talk, the way you work, the way you train, the way you dress, the way you speak.
EVERYTHING.
All adds up to the person who is capable.
So what does that mean for you and me?
Well, for me, it means that I have one month to hit my Q2 income goal and at the moment of writing this, I am capable of doing so.
Why?
Because if I was, I already would be earning that much.
So in order to hit that goal, I have recalibrated and set myself for that target. This means changes in behaviour, systems, and beliefs that a person who is capable of making that kind of money would have.
For you, it leaves a question.
Who would you have to become to achieve your goals?
What would you have to do to become that person?
Unfortunately, I cannot answer that question for you.
Fortunately, you can answer it for yourself.
If this all sounds a bit confusing, that's because it is.
