This is a lesson I have learnt recently that I thought was really worth sharing.
I often wondered to myself in the past why I haven't been getting the results I want, despite completing all of the inputs required to do so.
I used to get frustrated by this and I always thought it was a problem with the work I was doing or other external factors.
It wasn't until I did a bit of introspection that I realised that the real problem was my lack of intention.
For example, two people could go to the gym for an hour and a half, do all of the same exercises and sets and get drastically different results.
Why?
Intention.
Person 1 is just going through the motions, which is fine sometimes when you just need to get it done.
But person 2 is going into every set with maximum intention and focused on getting the most out of each rep.
I was more like person 2 for a long time with fitness and work.
Focused on just getting it done rather than really trying to get the most out of everything.
Not only did I not get the most bang for my buck, but things started to feel like chores.
Now I've started focusing on being more intentional, I'm actually enjoying working and training so much more.
I'm producing better work, which makes me feel better because I feel confident and competent.
I'm training better, which is getting me results and also exerting myself at full capacity has relieved a lot of underlying stress too.
The lesson from this is that sometimes, inputs themself may not be enough.
You've gotta really show up to everything with full presence and be 100% there if you want to get the best results.
Pay attention to this this week and let me know if you notice any difference.
Progress With Us Podcast
Yesterday we released our 50-minute conversation with none other than Dr Asif Munaf!
Dr Asif worked for over half his life in Medicine and has always had a passion for health, but left the industry to help prevent illness rather than heal it.
He was an absolutely incredible guest.
Humble, polite and gave honest answers to the questions we asked which made for a great conversation.
You can watch the full episode on YouTube here.
Lessons From This Week
You Need To Get Good At What You Do
Nothing will improve the results you get more than getting good at what you do. If you master your field and establish yourself as an expert, things come a lot easier.
The Importance Of Soft Skills
Being polite, outgoing and welcoming will never be a bad thing. Learn to embrace your soft skills and practise them more often as it pays big dividends.
Be A Lifelong Learner
We asked Dr Asif what he would do if he were to go back to being our age again and his response was that he would learn as much as he could about as many things as he could.
