If you look out for these newsletters, you may have noticed the absence of them in your inbox.
I can only apologise.
If you haven’t seen my Instagram already…
I have been away in Kenya and wanted to be fully present to enjoy the trip so work was temporarily suspended.
But I am back!
Feeling fully refreshed, ready to produce some valuable content in the coming weeks and get back into a solid routine.
‘Uncomfortable Things Are Uncomfortable’
Well duh?
That’s literally what the word means.
It’s NOT comfortable and we don’t usually like doing things that make us feel like that.
But here is a big issue…
A lot of the rewards, lessons and outcomes we desire to sit on the other side of discomfort.
Do you want to get a good degree?
You have to work very hard. Uncomfortable.
Do you want to get in great shape?
You have to work very hard. Uncomfortable.
Do you want great relationships?
You might have to have hard conversations. You get the gist.
So, How Do You Overcome The Discomfort?
You embrace it and accept it.
I can only speak from experience so I will give you an example.
My Project Kaizen posts.
Talking to myself in my bedroom and posting it to 2,300 people on Instagram who probably just knew me from being part of the local crowd back in my school days.
Very, very uncomfortable at first.
The choice I had was:
Don’t post and let your worries get the better of you.
Post them anyway and firm the discomfort.
I picked Option Two 31 days ago and now, it feels like a walk in the park.
I knew it would get easier,
But I still had to put up with the initial discomfort.
The Lesson?
A lot of life is just making trade-offs and looking at opportunity costs.
In fact, almost everything we do falls into one of these categories
And a lot of the time, the cost for the things you want is…
Being willing to feel uncomfortable.
But the more uncomfortable things you do, the bigger your comfort zone gets.
And soon, your comfort zone will become so vast that it will swallow the things you used to find uncomfortable until they become insignificant.
How To Make Uncomfortable Things Easier
Do them more often.
And if you need accountability to do so,
Join me in participating in Project Kaizen - a 100-day challenge where doing something uncomfortable every day is mandatory (amongst other things).
